Do you have water damage in your home? Contact Suncoast today!
While living in South Florida certainly has its advantages, there are some disadvantages to living here, as well. One of the biggest disadvantages to living in South Florida is the fact that your home is subject to water damage, especially after a catastrophic weather event. At Suncoast, however, we are pleased to help South Florida residents counteract the effects of water damage in their home, and get them “back to normal” in no time at all.
What can cause water damage in your home?
There are many things that can cause water damage in your home, and it’s best to remain vigilant about them so that you can counteract their effects.
Hurricanes
This is the most common cause of water damage in South Florida homes. When a hurricane blazes through, it leaves a lot of damage in its wake. The biggest amount of damage, of course, is caused by the extreme amounts of water caused by rains and flooding. If left untreated, this damage can lead to the development of toxic black mold, which can cause a variety of health problems to those who live in the house.
Flooding
The closer you live to water, the more likely you are to be the victim of flooding. A catastrophic weather event isn’t the only thing that can cause the water levels to rise so high that it causes flooding in your home – and this is especially true if you live right on the beach, or on the Intracoastal Waterway. Sometimes, all it takes is a full moon for water levels to rise to flooding levels, leaving extreme water damage in its wake.
A slow leak
Disaster isn’t always caused by Mother Nature. Sometimes, all it takes for mold to grow in your home is a slow leak. Do you have a pipe that’s always dripping onto the sheetrock? Do you have a toilet that “bleeds” out into the back wall? These things, while seemingly innocuous on the surface, can lead to the development of toxic black mold over a period.
